What to expect:
Our journey begins in Komiža, where we’ll hike up to St. Bjož hill to visit a historic chapel and ring its centuries-old bells. After a short break in the hidden, abandoned village of Bjož, we’ll continue to Dragodid, a tiny settlement perched in the hills overlooking Komiža.
Founded around 200 years ago, Dragodid was the youngest of the surrounding villages. It remained inhabited until the 1950s, when its last residents left. Today, locals still return to grow vines, harvest rosemary, and tend beehives.
READ MOREREAD LESS
The village is a remarkable example of traditional stone architecture, with houses built from roughly carved stone blocks. Even the roofs were carefully crafted using stacked flat stones on wooden frames—a testament to the island’s historic building techniques.
As we make our way back, we’ll hike through fragrant landscapes of rosemary, lavender, and other Mediterranean herbs, learning about their traditional uses.
