ABOUT GAJETA FALKUŠA EXPERIENCE

In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Culture, the experience of gajeta falkuša – folk heritage related to the falkuša, art of shipbuilding, navigation, sailing, fishing and the language – comprises all the characteristics of intangible cultural good and Alternatura travel agency is one of its holders.

By telling a story about falkušas that, for many centuries, has been the centre of gravity of a small island community and saving the traditional knowledge and skills from oblivion, we want to preserve the identity based on one’s own cultural milieu.

Today, Mr. Pino Vojković—captain of the gajeta falkuša ”Palagruza” and promoter of Croatian maritime heritage together with Alternatura travel agency, bring the experience of the gajeta Falkuša to life through a range of tourism offerings on the island of Vis.

Pino Vojković, born in Komiža and the captain of the third gajeta, was involved in the process of revitalisation of the boat since the very beginning. He was also the youngest Comeza-Lisboa crewmember at the 1998 Lisbon World Exhibition, and he also took part in the construction of the second replica – the Mikula falkuša. As an honorary member of Comeza-Lisboa, Vojković participated in a host of international exhibitions, festivals and regattas. Fascinated by the tradition and gajeta falkuša, he initiated the construction of the third replica.

Every year, the crew of the Palagruža gajeta takes part in regattas of traditional boats.
